Vintage threads

As you have probably read in my earlier posts, I am a Morsbagger i.e. I make Morsbags, eco friendly shopping bags made from donated scrap fabrics and given away totally free, guerilla style, to unsuspecting members of the public to cut down on plastic carrier bags. I recently celebrated my first 'Morsbirthday' as I registered my 'pod' (i.e. me!) in June last year. I was amazed to discover I have single-handedly made and given away 300 bags so far - not bad!

I realised that I had almost got through all of the donated cotton reels I was given. So me and my mum had a sort out of all the old threads we had accumulated over the years, many of which were inherited from my late grandma who worked in Leicester's once thriving hosiery trade. Some had weakened with age and snap easily so aren't suitable to use in my machine but many are perfectly fine and look so beautiful (particularly the old wooden spools) I had to take some photos (yes, I'm a sewing geek!!)
